Poets on Every Block

poets on every block

industry has left

in the wake is a mess

houses in the que to tear down

those left behind are the literary kind

poets on every block

when all around is falling apart

what is left is what is inside

your family and friends

and poets on every block

take a look inside

See what you can find

When industry goes, leaves lives full of woes

poets on every block

We have been in this scene

and dealt before with streets

lean and mean

but the upside is there for those that see

left is poets on every block

It ain’t that we are so literary

tis a gene that everyone carries

you are doin it too

muddling through

poets on every block

Oh Michigan, oh Detroit

the place where they made the cars

we who are left

will not turn out the lights

Uhauls and freeways

look attractive, oh yes

but here is something we know

we got a poet on every block

At the art fair in the town square

where poets and artists gather

there is singing still

for those who will

there’s a poet on every block

Keep singing the songs

There’s and angel on your tounge

Whether Irish you be or no

there’s a poet on every block
